On the basis of historical documents, memoirs of contemporaries, the authors analyze the clinic and development of atherothrombosis the left femoral artery complicated by gangrene of the limb from which sufferd the well-known historical figures — the king of France Louis XIV. The authors clarify the factors contributing to the emergence of disease, amount of help from the standpoint of the medical ability of those years.
