Vadim I. Mazurov

Mazurov Vadim Ivanovich since 2000, is vice-rector for clinical work of the medical Academy of postgraduate education (now SZGMY  I. I. Mechnikov). From 1996 to the present time he heads the department of therapy and rheumatology   E. E. Eichwald SZGMY  I. I. Mechnikov.

From 1995 to 2009-chief rheumatologist of St. Petersburg, from 2009 to the present time -chief therapist of the Healthcare Committee of St. Petersburg and chief rheumatologist of the Leningrad region, and  vice-president of the association of rheumatologists of Russia and member of the board of the St. Petersburg society of therapists  S. P. Botkin.

V. I. Mazurov is a recognized scientific authority, who made a major contribution to the development of science and training of scientific and pedagogical personnel. He created a well-known scientific school  in Russia and abroad, prepared 14 doctors and 45 candidates of medical Sciences, author of more than 500 scientific publications.

The main scientific directions are devoted to the study of immunopathological processes in rheumatic and hematological diseases, and development of methods for their diagnosis and treatment. He formulated the original concept of general violations of cytokine regulation in systemic rheumatic and lymphoproliferative diseases. For the first time V. I. Mazurov developed and justified the principles of intensification of treatment of rheumatoid arthritis with repeated courses of polychemotherapy with cytostatic and glucorticoid drugs, allowing to obtain a stable and long-lasting therapeutic effect. The results of these studies allowed to include the developed method of treatment in the standards of management of patients with rheumatic diseases.
